On June 8, President of the Artsakh Republic Arayik Harutyunyan received Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Arthur Davtyan. Issues related to the cooperation and expansion of ties between the relevant structures of Armenia and Artsakh were discussed during the meeting, attended by Prosecutor General of the Artsakh Republic Gurgen Nersisyan.

Birmingham restaurant overflowed with calls after Johnny Depp visit

Mohammed Hussain’s phone has been ringing off the hook for nearly 48 hours. He’s the operations director of Varanasi restaurant in Birmingham, and has been fielding calls from around world ever since news broke that Johnny Depp dined at the establishment on Sunday. “Our Instagram has gone mental. We’ve never seen so much activity on there,” said Hussain. “I’ve had phone calls from America, from India, from Spain, Germany, China, and I just literally haven’t had the time to even sit down. It has been manic.”

Family of Black man killed by North Carolina police to get $3 million

A North Carolina sheriff's office announced a $3 million settlement on Monday in a lawsuit filed by the family of an unarmed Black man who was shot and killed in his car by sheriff’s deputies more than a year ago. The family of Andrew Brown Jr. had filed a $30 million civil rights lawsuit in 2021, saying the man died because officers showed “intentional and reckless disregard of his life.” Brown was killed on April 21 of last year by at his Elizabeth City home.

Cameroon soldiers killed nine villagers, government admits

A group of soldiers have killed nine villagers including an 18-month-old girl, in a “manifestly disproportionate” and “hasty” response to a confrontation in northwest Cameroon, the government has said. The four soldiers were searching for a missing comrade in the village of Missong when they came across a group of angry villagers at night, the defence ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Terrifying video shows the moment an orangutan grabs a zoo visitor by the leg and apparently tries to drag him into its cage. The powerful ape - thought to be a female - locks both hands and a foot around the victim and refuses to let go as another man tries to save him. It is not clear where the footage was taken, but it went viral after being shared on Reddit.

USB-C will be mandatory for phones sold in the EU by autumn 2024

Apple will have to change the connector on iPhones sold in Europe by 2024 after EU countries and lawmakers agreed on Tuesday to a single mobile charging port for mobile phones, tablets and cameras in a world first. The political intervention, which the European Commission said would make life easier for consumers and save them money, came after companies failed to reach a common solution. By autumn 2024, USB Type-C will become the common charging port for all mobile phones, tablets and cameras in the EU.

KFC Australia switches to cabbage due to lettuce shortage

Fast food giant KFC has been forced to put cabbage in its burgers and wraps in Australia as the country is struggling with a shortage of lettuce. The firm told customers it is using a mixture of lettuce and cabbage after floods destroyed lettuce crops. It comes as shoppers in Australia have been hit with soaring prices for some fresh fruits and vegetables. Social media users have posted photos of lettuces costing over A$10 ($7.18), three times the usual price.

Skating minimum age to be raised to 17 following Olympic controversy

The International Skating Union has voted to gradually raise the minimum age of competition from 15 to 17 following the controversy surrounding Kamila Valieva at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The minimum age for skaters will be 16 years old for the 2023-24 season and then increase to 17 from the 2024-25 season, in time for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

Brad Pitt alleges Angelina Jolie 'inflicted harm' on him by selling their wine company

Angelina Jolie “sought to inflict harm” on her former husband Brad Pitt by selling her stake in their co-owned vineyard to a Russian oligarch, new legal documents have claimed. The sale allegedly helped launch a “hostile” takeover of the wine business that the actor had “carefully built” and forced him into partnership with “a stranger with poisonous associations and intentions”. According to the lawsuit, Jolie sold her stake to a Luxembourg-based spirits manufacturer controlled by Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler, without Pitt’s knowledge.

Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini, once the chiefs of world and European football, face trial on Wednesday over a suspected fraudulent payment that shook the sport and torpedoed their time at the top. Former FIFA president Blatter, 86, and Platini, 66, start a two-week trial at Switzerland's Federal Criminal Court in the southern city of Bellinzona, following a mammoth investigation that began in 2015 and lasted six years.

Burn-proof edition of 'The Handmaid's Tale' up for auction

Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" has often provoked controversy, facing book bans over the decades since its release in 1985. The fireproof version is being auctioned by Sotheby's New York on Wednesday with a high estimate of $100,000. Proceeds will go towards PEN America, a literary and free expression advocacy organization, which recently released a report finding that 1,586 books were banned in US schools over a nine-month period from July 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

James Milner: Liverpool midfielder signs new one-year contract

James Milner has signed a one-year contract extension to stay at Liverpool until the end of next season. The 36-year-old’s deal was due to expire this month and he has accepted a significant pay cut to remain with the club he joined from Manchester City in 2015. Milner is understood to have had offers from at least one other Premier League club and from two teams abroad.

At least 20 dead in new DR Congo massacre

At least 20 people have been killed in a new massacre in DR Congo's eastern province of Ituri, a respected monitor said on Monday, adding that the notorious ADF militia were suspected. The attack took place overnight in the village of Bwanasura in Irumu territory, the Kivu Security Tracker (KST) said on Twitter. David Beiza, head of the Red Cross in Irumu, said volunteers from his organisation "have counted 36 bodies" at the site of the massacre.

Injured Salah led Egypt to victory after defying Liverpool

Mohamed Salah played 90 minutes for Egypt on Sunday despite being injured. The Liverpool forward turned down the Reds' offer of a scan before the game. He has been struggling with a groin problem he picked up in the FA Cup final. Egypt have two more fixtures this month but Salah will now undergo an X-ray.

Musk threatens to drop Twitter deal if fake-account data not provided

Elon Musk is threatening to walk away from his $44 billion bid to buy Twitter, accusing the company of refusing to give him information about its spam bot and fake accounts. Lawyers for the Tesla and SpaceX CEO made the threat in a letter to Twitter dated Monday, and Twitter disclosed it in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The letter says Musk has repeatedly asked for the information since May 9.

The "Hellier" Stradivarius "is the finest inlaid violin ever made by... China warns Canada over air patrols monitoring North Korea sanctions busting

China has accused Canadian military jets of stepping up reconnaissance and “provocations” against the country, with its foreign ministry warning Ottawa of potential “severe consequences”. China’s defence ministry on Monday said it opposed Canada’s actions, which it said endangered the Asian country’s national security, while the foreign ministry said the air patrol by Canada was unauthorised. Canada had previously accused China of harassing its pilots during patrols to monitor UN sanctions on North Korea.
