Hundreds flee homes in US southwest as massive wildfire advances

Wind-whipped flames raced across pine-covered mountainsides in the US state of New Mexico on Monday, forcing residents to flee their homes and leading to the evacuation of the state’s psychiatric hospital. Hundreds of households in an historic city in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains were told to evacuate immediately as intense winds and bone-dry conditions fuelled the huge wildfire burning on the outskirts of town.

Jury gives sweeping win to Kardashians in $100m Blac Chyna lawsuit

A Los Angeles jury has given a sweeping win to the Kardashian family in former reality TV star Blac Chyna’s lawsuit against them, finding that none of the Kardashians had defamed Chyna, nor did they interfere with her contract by convincing the E! network to cancel her show Rob & Chyna. The four Kardashian defendants Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Khloé Kardashian and Kylie Jenner attended nearly the entire trial, but when the verdict was read all were in New York at the Met Gala. Chyna was in court for the verdict. She had no visible reaction.

Jacky Hunt-Broersma: The cancer survivor who ran 104 marathons in 104 days

A woman who took up running after she lost her left leg to cancer has passed the Guinness World Record for most consecutive marathons. Jacky Hunt-Broersma, 46, has run 26.2-miles every day since mid-January, normally taking around five hours. On Saturday, she completed her 104th consecutive marathon in as many days - an achievement she expects to be certified by Guinness World Records.

More than 3,000 civilians killed in Ukraine so far, U.N. says

The U.N. human rights office (OHCHR) said on Monday that the death toll of civilians killed in Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on Feb. 24 had exceeded 3,000 people. The toll of 3,153 killed so far represents an increase of 254 from Friday.

Delhi driver grows garden on autorickshaw roof to beat the heat

Yellow and green autorickshaws are ubiquitous on New Delhi's roads but Mahendra Kumar's vehicle stands out -- it has a garden on its roof aimed at keeping passengers cool during the searing summer season. Kumar says the thick patch of green keeps the vehicle cool even when temperatures are touching 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit) in the Indian capital, enough to melt the tar on roads.

New Zealand faces major sea rise ‘much sooner than we thought’

Philippines fire kills eight, including children

Eight people have died, including six children, after a fire tore through scores of homes near the Philippines capital Manila, local officials have said. The blaze, which started around 05:00 local time on Monday (22:00 BST on Sunday), also destroyed 80 homes. It started on the second floor of a house in a crowded settlement inside the sprawling campus of the University of the Philippines, in Quezon City. The cause of the blaze is unknown.

Mark Zuckerberg got $11 billion richer

Nearly two months after losing his spot among the world's 10 richest rich people, Mark Zuckerberg is clawing his way back. Shares of Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, shot up more than 17% Thursday, making Zuckerberg nearly $11 billion wealthier in a single day. Woman rescued 50 hours after China building collapse

A woman was rescued Sunday from the rubble of a building in central China more than 50 hours after it collapsed, leaving dozens trapped or missing, state media said.
