Maradona’s shirt from ‘Hand of God’ England match estimated to sell for £4m

Diego Maradona’s infamous “Hand of God” goal made footballing history and cemented the legendary status of the Argentinian superstar. Now the shirt he wore when he scored that goal in the 1986 World Cup championships is estimated to sell for at least £4m. Maradona’s number 10 shirt has been owned for the past 35 years by the former England midfielder Steve Hodge, after the two players swapped shirts at the end of the quarter-final between Argentina and England. Online bidding for the shirt will be open from 20 April until 4 May.

Ed Sheeran wins Shape of You copyright case and hits out at 'baseless' claims

Ed Sheeran has won a High Court copyright battle over his 2017 hit Shape of You. A judge ruled on Wednesday that the singer-songwriter had not plagiarised the 2015 song Oh Why by Sami Chokri. Chokri, a grime artist who performs under the name Sami Switch, had claimed the "Oh I" hook in Sheeran's track was "strikingly similar" to an "Oh why" refrain in his own track. After the ruling, Sheeran said such "baseless" claims "are way too common".

US, UK, Australia vow to cooperate on hypersonic weapons

The United States, Britain and Australia said Tuesday they would begin collaborating on hypersonic missile strike and defence capacity, as rivals Russia and China advance rapidly in the cutting-edge technology. The trio said they would work on hypersonics in an expansion of their recent AUKUS defence alliance, which is to equip Australia with nuclear-powered submarines to counter China's growing military clout.

Bobby Rydell, singer and Philly native known for 'Wildwood Days,' died

Rydell died of complications from pneumonia at Jefferson Hospital on Tuesday, according to a statement posted by his marketing and event coordinator Maria Novey. Rydell, who credited a 2012 kidney and liver transplant with extending his life, was 79. Between 1959 and 1964, he had nearly three dozen Top 40 singles including "Wild One," "Volare," "Wildwood Days," "The Cha-Cha-Cha" and "Forget Him," a song of consolation for a bereft girl that helped inspire the Beatles' classic "She Loves You."

Car rams Russian Embassy gate in Romania, driver dead

Police in the Romanian capital say a car has crashed into the gate of the Russian Embassy, bursting into flames and killing the driver. Police in Bucharest say the sedan rammed into the gate at about 6 a.m. Wednesday but did not enter the embassy compound. There was no immediate information on a possible motive or other details.

Jon Batiste quietly married Suleika Jaouad, his longtime girlfriend, in February. She had been diagnosed with leukemia for the second time. "We got married the day before I was admitted to the hospital to undergo my bone marrow transplant," she told "CBS Sunday Morning." Jaouad continued: "We have known that we wanted to get married, I think, from the first week that we started dating. That's when Jon first brought up the topic of marriage to me. So, we've had eight years. This is not, you know, a hasty decision!" She added that her diagnosis wasn't actually a factor in the two tying the knot.

Mohamed Salah intends to sign a new deal at Liverpool, says Egypt sports minister Ashraf Sobhi. Sobhi said he advised Salah, 29, to leave Anfield, only for the Egypt forward to say he was likely to extend a contract that runs until June 2023. "I have advised him to continue his journey at a club other than Liverpool, but his direction now is to renew his contract," Sobhi said. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said he was "happy" with progress on a new deal.

New Batman story coming to Spotify podcasts in May, in 9 languages

Spotify's podcast fiction series about Batman alter-ego Bruce Wayne will debut around the world in May with local adaptations in nine countries including India, Brazil and Japan, the company said on Tuesday. "Batman Unburied" is the first podcast developed through a multi-year deal between Spotify Technology SA (SPOT.N) and AT&T Inc's (T.N) Warner Bros to bring DC Comics superheroes to narrative podcasts.

Madrid’s Ancelotti likely to miss Chelsea game with COVID-19

Real Madrid will likely be without coach Carlo Ancelotti for the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals against Chelsea because of COVID-19. Ancelotti tested positive for the coronavirus last week and did not travel to London with the rest of the squad on Tuesday. There was a possibility he could still make it for Wednesday’s match if he tests negative in time to travel. Ancelotti had already missed the team’s 2-1 win over Celta Vigo in the Spanish league on Saturday.

British father and son, 9, killed in Australian mountain landslide

Two members of a British family have died and two others are critically injured after a landslide while they were hiking on holiday in Australia. The man, 49, and his nine-year-old son were killed by falling rocks in the Blue Mountains near Sydney on Monday. A woman, 50, and her son, 14, were taken to hospital with serious head and abdominal injuries. Her daughter, 15, who is thought to have raised the alarm, has been treated for shock.

Darwin was right! Birds living near the equator are more colourful than those closer to the poles

Experts took photos of 24,000 bird specimens held by Natural History Museum. They then used AI to analyse the colours of the birds down to each single pixel. Results showed birds from nearer the equator are 30 per cent more colourful than birds living nearer the poles.

Kuwait's government resigns in latest standoff with parliament

Kuwait's government submitted its resignation on Tuesday, state news agency KUNA reported, ahead of a no-confidence vote against the prime minister in parliament, amid a lengthy political feud that has hindered fiscal reform in the Gulf oil producer. KUNA reported that Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, who took over most of the ruling emir's duties late last year, received the government's letter of resignation from Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid.

Several people killed in train derailment in Hungary

A train derailed after striking a vehicle in southern Hungary early Tuesday, leaving seven people dead and others injured. The accident occurred just before 7 a.m. in the town of Mindszent. Police said a van drove onto the train tracks and was struck by a train, which derailed from the force of the collision. Hungarian state railways indicated that all those killed had been traveling in the van. It said that 22 people were on the train at the time of the collision. Two people were seriously hurt and eight others suffered mild injuries.

'Stolen' Charles Darwin notebooks left on library floor in pink gift bag

Two "stolen" notebooks written by Charles Darwin have been mysteriously returned to Cambridge University, 22 years after they were last seen. The small leather-bound books are worth many millions of pounds and include the scientist's "tree of life" sketch. Their return comes 15 months after the BBC first highlighted they had gone missing and the library launched a worldwide appeal to find them.
