Prince Harry, Meghan make surprise visit to queen at Windsor

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan have visited Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle on their first joint visit to the U.K. since they gave up formal royal roles and moved to the U.S. more than two years ago. The couple’s office says they visited the 95-year-old queen, Harry’s grandmother, Thursday on their way to the Netherlands to attend the Invictus Games. Harry is a founder and patron of the international sports competition for wounded military veterans.

North Korea celebrates founding leader's birthday

North Korea celebrated the birthday of its founding leader on Friday, state media reported, but mystery surrounded when a military parade -- at which the regime may unveil new weapons -- might happen. Known as the Day of the Sun in the nuclear-armed North, the April 15 birthday of the late Kim Il Sung -- grandfather of current leader Kim Jong Un -- is one of the most important dates in Pyongyang's political calendar.

China holds drills around Taiwan as U.S. lawmakers visit

China said it conducted military drills around Taiwan on Friday as a U.S. Congressional delegation visited the island in a show of support to a fellow democracy, with Beijing blaming the lawmakers for raising tensions with their "provocative" trip. China's military sent frigates, bombers and fighter planes to the East China Sea and the area around Taiwan, the People's Liberation Army Eastern Theatre Command said, in a statement released as the lawmakers were holding a news conference in Taipei.

2 dead, more than 200 homes charred in New Mexico wildfire

Firefighters took advantage of a brief break in the weather but gusty winds were expected to return Friday to southern New Mexico where a wildfire has claimed two lives and charred more than 200 homes. The fire has forced the evacuation of about 5,000 people in the mountain community of Ruidoso, where the remains of a couple were found near a burned home as they tried to flee. New Mexico State Police confirmed the blaze killed the two people after it started Tuesday from a windblown, downed power line. Their names have not been released.

North Korea hackers accused of Axie Infinity crypto heist

The United States has linked North Korean hackers to a multi-million dollar cryptocurrency heist last month focusing on players of the popular Axie Infinity game. The March hack of Blockchain project Ronin was one of the biggest to hit the crypto world, raising huge questions about security in an industry that only recently burst into the mainstream thanks to celebrity promotions and promises of untold wealth. The Ronin network allows users to transfer crypto in and out of the game.

Clashes at Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem: medics, witnesses

Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli police clashed at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa mosque compound Friday morning, medics and witnesses said. "Seven injured people were taken to hospital to be treated for upper body injuries," a member of the Palestinian Red Crescent told AFP. Witnesses said that Palestinian protestors threw stones at Israeli security forces, who fired rubber bullets at some of the demonstrators.

Tsitsipas breezes past Djere in Monte Carlo

Mark Ronson will remember the DJ life in upcoming book

Before he was working with Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse and many others, Mark Ronson was a teen DJ in 1990s downtown New York, a place and time he will look back on in an upcoming book. The Oscar and Grammy-winning producer and songwriter has a deal with Grand Central Publishing for “93 ’Til Infinity,” scheduled for 2023. Ronson says he will write a combination memoir-DJ study-New York celebration, centering the narrative on favorite venues and events.

Iran is opening new centrifuge-parts workshop at Natanz -IAEA report

Iran is starting to operate a new workshop at Natanz that will make parts for uranium-enriching centrifuges with machines moved there from its now-closed Karaj facility, the U.N. nuclear watchdog said in a report on Thursday seen by Reuters. The new workshop raises questions about Iran's plans for the manufacturing of advanced centrifuges - machines that produce enriched uranium much faster than the first-generation machines it was restricted to using for that purpose by its 2015 deal with major powers.

Prince Albert of Monaco has COVID-19 for second time after speaking out on his long recovery

The royal, 64, became the first head of state to contract the virus in March 2020. He spent two weeks in palace isolation at the time.  "The Prince's Palace announces that H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco has tested positive for Covid-19," a statement sent to PEOPLE reads on Wednesday. "He is asymptomatic and his state of health is not a cause of any concern," the statement continues. "He continues to work remotely and remains in permanent contact with the members of his cabinet, his government as well as with his close collaborators.

Ri Chun Hi, North Korea’s most famous state TV anchor, has announced major events for decades, including nuclear and missile tests and the death of a leader, with an instantly identifiable, passionate voice. The anchor, dubbed the “pink lady” abroad for her bright traditional Korean attire, became the topic of official North Korean media herself Thursday after leader Kim Jong Un gave her a luxurious residence and asked her to continue to serve as the voice of his ruling Workers’ Party.

Elon Musk offers to buy Twitter for $41 billion

Musk's offer price of $54.20 per share, which was disclosedin a regulatory filing on Thursday, represents a 38% premium to Twitter's April 1 close, the last trading day before the Tesla CEO's more than 9% stake in the company was made public. "Since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company," Musk said in a letter to Twitter Chairman Bret Taylor.

Prosecutors call for Maradona medical staff to face trial

Prosecutors investigating the 2020 death of Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona have asked that the medical staff who treated him be tried for negligent homicide. In their request Wednesday, the prosecutors said "omissions" and mismanagement by eight medical professionals in charge of Maradona placed him in a "situation of helplessness" and abandoned him "to his fate" during his home hospitalization, according to the court filing cited by the official Telam news agency.

Over 300 killed after flooding washed away roads, destroyed homes in South Africa

Heavy rains and flooding battered the eastern coast of South Africa on Wednesday, killing at least 306 people, damaging roads and destroying homes. A bridge near the coastal city of Durban was swept away, leaving people stranded on either side.

Tropical storm Megi: Philippines death toll rises to 123 as landslides bury villages

The death toll from landslides and floods in the Philippines rose to 123 on Wednesday with scores missing and feared dead, officials said, as rescuers dug up more bodies with bare hands and backhoes in crushed villages. Most of the deaths from tropical storm Megi – the strongest to hit the archipelago this year – were in the central province of Leyte, where a series of landslides devastated communities.

Colombian football 'Colossus' Freddy Rincon dead at 55: doctors

Colombian former international midfield star Freddy Rincon died on Wednesday aged 55 of injuries he sustained in a traffic accident, doctors said. Rincon suffered a severe head injury following a collision on Monday between the vehicle he was travelling in and a bus in the southwest city of Cali. The former Real Madrid and Napoli ace underwent almost three hours of surgery before being transferred to intensive care, but died on Wednesday.

Three Palestinians shot dead in occupied West Bank

Israeli soldiers have shot dead three Palestinians in the illegally occupied West Bank, one of them a 14-year-old boy, amid continued raids by the Israeli armed forces following a series of deadly attacks inside Israel. The three were killed on Wednesday, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Michel Bouquet, a legend of French stage and screen known for his collaborations with new wave directors like Francois Truffaut and Claude Chabrol, died on Wednesday at the age of 96. Bouquet passed away in a Paris hospital, his spokesperson told AFP.
